Rev. David J. Wood’s sermon was delivered as part of the installation service for Dr. Wesley Avram as the new senior pastor at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Wood began serving as the Senior Minister of the Glencoe Union Church in Glencoe, Ill., near Chicago, in July. Previously, he served as the National Coordinator for the Lilly Endowment’s Transition into Ministry Program and as Associate Director of the Louisville Institute. Ordained an American Baptist, he holds an M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and an S.T.M. from Yale Divinity School and has served congregations in Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine and Paris, France. He has published articles in several periodicals and books, including The Christian Century and For Life Abundant: Practical Theology, Theological Education and Christian Ministry. David and his wife Jennifer have three children. Their oldest child, Julia, is a senior at the University of Southern Maine, while twin boys, Jordan and James, are sophomores at Calvin College.
The Woods and the Avrams have known each other for nearly 20 years, first meeting in Lewiston, Maine, when Wes was College Chaplain at Bates College and David was the pastor of the historic “college church” in Lewiston. Dr. Avram will be traveling to Chicago in November to be a preacher at Rev. Wood’s installation at Glencoe Union.
