• Our 2nd graders are in Fellowship Hall, Room 3 today, learning about the Last Supper and making travel brochures that follow Jesus’ footsteps during Holy Week.
• Our 4th and 5th graders meet inFellowship Hall, Room 1, and are continuing on their quest through the Old Testament. This week they’re learning about King Solomon, son of King David.
Join Us For Club Wed! – for food, fun activities, fellowship, and choirs. Dinner begins at 5:30pm with BBQ hamburgers/hotdogs. No reservations are needed. Call Marilyn Hylton at 480.585.9448 ext. 241 with questions. This is an exciting program for the entire family.
Hearts For Haiti: Little Hearts Getting Bigger – Because of a discussion in the Owl class, each of our preschool classes were asked to participate in this program to raise money for the Haiti relief fund. A variety of hearts were on display in the courtyard and available for a small donation. There were bookmarks, brownies, stationary, yummy smelling hearts, pencils with hearts, and many other kinds of hearts made by the children. A check in the amount of $518 was given to the church on behalf of the preschooler’s that had a vision to help those in need.
Year Of The Bible – Don’t give something up for Lent – add something! Join us in our reading of Scripture from now until Easter. Contact Shelly Core at snscore@msn.com to join the group! This week’s readings are Deuteronomy 3–22, Mark 10:32 – 13:37.
For The Bible Tells Me So – For those who attended the film documentary For the Bible Tells Me So, there will be a follow up discussion time at 7pm on Monday, March 8 in the Youth Center.
Blood Drive Is Today – You have the opportunity to give the Gift of Life. Pinnacle will be conducting its semi–annual blood drive between 8am and noon today in Fellowship Hall.
PPC Adult Hiking Group – At 8:30am Saturday, March 13, we will leave from the chapel parking lot. This is an easy 4–mile hike with a gradual climb to Taliesin Overlook. There are great views of Camelback, Squaw Peak and Pinnacle Peak. The brittle bush should be in bloom. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and a snack. Any questions, call Donna Mobley at 480.513.0150.
The Parabola Discussion Group will meet in the Chapel Parlor today at 11:30am to discuss Love, the theme of the Spring 2010 edition.
The Youth Rummage Sale is March 26 and 27. We will be collecting donations March 19–23. Please begin setting aside items to donate for this cause. The proceeds from the rummage sale will primarily be used to fund this summer’s High School Mission Trip. In addition to providing a great mission experience for the youth of our church, the rummage sale also helps our community. By members of our congregation donating items they no longer need or use, people within the community are able to purchase goods at a discounted price. In addition on Saturday once the sale is closed, we invite local non profits – Welcome to America, Betania Presbyterian Church, and the Phoenix Rescue Mission – to come through and select items that will aid their ministries. Finally, Saint Vincent de Paul comes and picks up all of the remaining items. One week of sorting, pricing, and selling benefits our local church, our immediate community, and the greater Phoenix area. We need your help to make this happen. We are looking for volunteers to help sort and sell. In addition, we are looking for clothing racks to borrow for the week. If you can help, contact Rev. Kristin using the staff e–mail page or look for the sign up table following the 10am service on the West Terrace.
Sin And Forgiveness – Today at 11:30am in room 4 of Fellowship Hall, the Lenten Conversation–Sin and Forgiveness will continue with Rev. Fran Park who will talk to us about Sin and Forgiveness in the New Testament. On March 14 Rev. Kristin Willett will explore author Robert Karen’s themes of moving from resentment to connection and the life that process offers. As Christians, we recognize that we work through this process as a reflection of the forgiveness that God offers us as God desires to be connected to us. On March 21, Dr. Avram will discuss forgiveness in political life.
The Thoughtful Christian Article for March is entitled Four Accounts of Jesus Resurrection. The account of Jesus burial and resurrection is found in all four Gospels and mentioned by Paul. While all accounts affirm His resurrection, they differ to various degrees. What do Christians believe about these differences, and what do we mean when we affirm that Jesus was raised from the dead?
Pinnacle Theological Center: Applying And Living The Social Creed – Fr. Larry Snyder will discuss Applying and Living the Social Creed as the fifth presentation in the Pinnacle Theological Center’s 2009–10 program on Thursday, March 18, at 7pm in the Chapel. Fr. Snyder serves as President of Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) – the national office of more than 1,600 local Catholic charities, agencies, and institutions that provide help and create hope for nearly 8 million people a year, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds. Its mission is to reduce poverty in America. In 2008, The Nonprofit Times recognized Father Snyder in its “Power and Influence Top 50” for having influenced the nonprofit sector throughout his career, as well as during the previous 12 months. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1988 and served as an associate pastor from 1988 to 1991.
